Testimonials

  • “I consulted with Lucy when my little girl was around three months old, and I was struggling with a raft of feeding issues including shallow latch, fast flow, and breast and bottle refusal. Lucy was very calm and kind, and provided me with information and advice that saw me make several adjustments to the way I was breastfeeding, with great results. The follow-up plan she sent was comprehensive and easy to understand, and I have referred back to it often. I think of Lucy’s advice even now, and I’m still happily breastfeeding my daughter at 14 months. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone who wants advice or support on their breastfeeding journey.”

  • “Thanks so much Lucy. I really liked your approach today, you are a great listener. Thanks for the advice, I’m putting it in place now. Focusing on the latch, position and releasing the mastitis lumps.”

  • “It was wonderful and very reassuring to meet you the other day. I found the session very helpful. Thanks for sending the detailed information over email too. I've been trying some of your suggestions. From gaining just 200gms/month, Nilan has now gained 200gms/fortnight :) Your suggestions are definitely showing improvement in his weight gain. Thank you for your support with breastfeeding. You are one of the most knowledgeable person I've met since Nilan's weight gain issue. I'll contact you if I need any further assistance. Thanks again.”

Breastfeeding support & baby feeding help

Breastfeeding, chestfeeding, lactation and mixed feeding can be difficult — both emotionally and physically. Getting the right specialist information, guidance and support can make all the difference to your early parenting and baby feeding journey. Your lactation consultant can work with you and your baby to help you, so you can get back to enjoying your baby feeding experience.

Some reasons you may make an appointment with a lactation consultant are:

  • Antenatal breastfeeding education.

  • Breast engorgement or breast pain.

  • Blocked ducts or breast infections like mastitis.

  • Sore, cracked or painful nipples.

  • Milk supply concerns.

  • Mixed feeding.

  • Removing nipple shields.

  • Struggling with nursing positions.

  • Issues with latching, tongue tie or sucking.

  • Returning to feeding on demand.

  • Your baby isn't gaining weight as expected.

  • Pumping either to increase supply or by choice.

  • Planning your return to work.

  • Your baby refusing the breast or bottle.

What is a lactation consultant?

A lactation consultant is a health professional who specialises in breastfeeding, chestfeeding, lactation and infant feeding, including bottle feeding. Lactation consultants can help anyone — first-time parents, adopting parents, parents who've already breastfed several children, and parents using infant formula. You can visit a lactation consultant while you are still pregnant, right after you give birth or several months or years into your breastfeeding or infant feeding journey.

Studies show that challenges such as painful nipples and milk supply are factors in a person's choice to stop breastfeeding. A board-certified lactation consultant is trained to work with infants and their parents to solve any lactation or feeding challenges they are experiencing and improve a parent's chances of breastfeeding for as long as they choose.

How does someone become a certified lactation consultant?

The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLE) certifies lactation consultants who meet it’s rigorous criteria and pass it’s exam. An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant may use IBCLC after their name.
